COMMISSION FOR CHRISTIAN FORMATION AND WORSHIP (CCFW) – Catechetics Department
Constitution of the Catechetics Department
of the Commission for Christian Formation and Worship
of the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference

The Catechetics Department of the Commission for Christian Formation and Worship exists to provide the Conference with such assistance and information as may be required in the evangelizing of the Church, particularly in policies and decisions of the Conference in regard to pastoral policies and programs and will assist in their implementation. |

The Department will be directed by a Secretary, in liaison with the coordinators of each diocesan Catechetical committee (who normally are directors of Diocesan Pastoral Centres), who will be members of the Department, together with such other persons as may be co-opted from time to time. |

The Secretary of the Department will report directly to the bishop president of CCFW, and will be responsible to the Secretary of CCFW. |

The Secretary of the Departments will liaise with the Secretaries of the Liturgical and Education Departments of CCFW. |

The members of the Departments will meet at least twice a year and more often if necessary. Where appropriate, their meetings coincide with those of the Liturgy Department and the National Pastoral Team. |

The Secretary of the Department has the capacity to engage the services of such other persons as may be necessary to forward the work of the Department. |

The functions of the Departments will be:-
| a |
to animate and coordinate the pastoral programmes of the Church in Zimbabwe, in the first place through the work of the diocesan pastoral centres, and secondly through the organisation of a national program; |
| b |
to obtain information on pastoral programmes in existence both inside and outside the country, and to make these available, where suitable, in Zimbabwe; |
| c |
to carry out research into pastoral needs and priorities, and to study areas of particular interest as requested by the Conference; |
| d |
to prepare and disseminate catechetical and other materials, where necessary, and to adopt or translate existing materials; |
| e |
to disseminate information, such as ecclesial documents and texts, notification of retreats and courses for pastoral workers, and similar information, such information will, where suitable, be published in ‘Crossroads’ of which the Secretary of the Department will be a member of the editorial board; |

to facilitate the formation and training of pastoral workers in the use of catechetical and pastoral programs and materials, either at diocesan pastoral centres, or at a national level, by means of courses, workshops, wither schools, or other means; |

to liaise closely with other national bodies representative of pastoral workers and concerned persons, such as NCOP, ZADC, Major Religious Superiors, ZCBC Commissions, other denominations, etc. |

The Secretary of the Department will have the power to seek funding, either at home or abroad, to finance the functions of the Department. Such funding might include a levy on each diocese, if such is approved by the Conference. |

The Secretary will prepare an annual report on the work of the Department and the diocesan pastoral centres, including statistics of the catholic population and pastoral personnel of the country, and an annual financial statement, for submission to the Conference. |

The Secretary of the Department will enter into a contract of employment with the Conference, either personally or through his/her ecclesiastical superiors, the terms of which contract will include the payment of a monthly salary or stipend and the provision of suitable transport by the Conference, as well as office accommodation. |

This draft constitution will be implemented ‘ad expermentum’ for a period of two years from the date of its approval by the Conference. |
