Daily Prayer Reading

You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.’

Situations involving grief and joy are being played out at any given time around the world as well as in our own neighbourhood. While one family is celebrating a new-born son or daughter, another is agonising over the death of a loved one. On both the big scale and in individual lives, mourning and joy often follow each other.

While many in this country may be enjoying prosperity and peace, only a few hours away by air people are involved in life and death battles, mourning spouses killed in war, their children dying of starvation. There is no way of totally avoiding sorrow in our lives and it is difficult to completely ignore the grief of others. But the resurrection of Christ can give us a deep confidence that God did not create us or our world for sorrow and pain.

As we share the Lord’s journey, we remember that we share not only his suffering, cross and death—but also his victory over death.
